VARIATION OF WALTZ OF THE HOURS
A redraw of my last picture 'Waltz of the Hours'. In this variation I have simplified and rearranged the elements surrounding the
corps de ballet to increase the sense of musicality and dance.

WALTZ OF THE HOURS
I'm pleased to show you my latest flower/ballet creation,
an interpretation of 'Waltz of the Hours', from Arthur St. Leon's great romantic ballet 'Coppelia'.
In the final act a 24 strong corps de ballet assemble on centre stage in four rows of six.
The colour of each row represents a different time of day; dark blue being night, yellow is day, lilac
and peach hues are dusk and dawn (at least that's how I've interpreted it to date, I'm very happy to be corrected).
Then a flowing and entrancing display of dance on mass ensues to the
beautiful melodic waltz by the French composer Leo Delibes.
I hope in my drawing you can sense the dance, music, colour and essence of another
of my favourite ballet scenes.

ENTRANCE OF THE SHADES
Esmeralda (from my last post) joins the rest of corps de ballet in the opening scene of Act IV,
'The Kingdom of the Shades', from Marius Petipa's great ballet 'La Bayadere'.
Here the ghosts of a troupe of bayaderes (temple dancers) slowly appear out of the mist and enter into a
mesmerizing passage of symphonic dance (involving a 32 strong corps de ballet).
It's one of my favourite ballet scenes and over time I simply became overwhelmed
with the desire to depict it through my art.

ESMERALDA
I'm pleased to introduce you to Esmeralda. She is part of the corps de ballet that feature in my next flower/ballet picture,
a depiction of the scene Entrance of the Shades from act II of the ballet Le Bayadere.

GRAND FINALE
It's the final act. The Principal Dancers, the Soloists, and the Corps are all moving around and around the stage like a giant carousal. There is much twirling and swirling on point as all the performers are lost in dance to the orchestra's crescendo as the
magnificent ballet builds to the grand finale.

RHODODENDRONS ON POINT
While looking at this picture I hope you feel some of the moving joy I felt while creating it to the beautiful ballet music of
Piotr Tchaikovsky, Claude Debussy, Leo Delibes, Charles Gounod, Andre Messager and others.

GOING NUTS FOR SPRING!
The cherry blossoms are blossoming, there's colour all around, the days are getting longer (and slightly warmer)
and I'm just starting to see summer on the horizon. It's it's all making me go kind of delirious with excitement.
This picture is originally from a comic story I did but by modifying it a little and colouring it up, it
seemed to really capture ...SPRING!

A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO THE ROYAL NEW ZEALAND BALLET...
for streaming some of your amazing productions over the COVID 19 lockdown. Your beautiful performances took the edge of a pretty worrying time and gave a lot us so much to look forward to every week.

THE ULTIMATE DREAM HOME?
I couldn't help drawing this picture after a friend and I were talking about lighthouses. I think I could live
in one forever...or maybe for a while anyway.

DONNA AND SISSY
Two delightful miniature donkeys I have the pleasure of occasional visiting at a local petting farm. I love going out to see
them and I like to think they are happy to see me. They allow me to pat them and chat away to them but after a
while they simply turn around and walk away. Ya gotta respect their sense of space and self.
